Abstract :
The University of Essex (UK) is a Participating Institution in the EUROCHIP programme. With the advent of the EUROCHIP initiative, and the availability of commercial full-custom CAD tools together with chip fabrication, the University is now able to expose undergraduates to novel and demanding aspects of full-custom integrated circuit design. The paper describes the development of teaching (undergraduate and postgraduate) and research activity in the VLSI field at Essex. Syllabus-level detail is provided of relevant undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and examples of project and assignment work are given
