Abstract :
The role of scientific visualization in understanding experimental data sets is examined. The difficulty in extracting parameters of interest from the measurements is described for five diverse application areas: physical oceanography, electronic warfare, molecular modeling, underwater acoustics, and synthetic-aperture radar. The role of digital imaging and signal processing is noted.<>
