Abstract :
This paper describes a new type of eddy-current separator. It separates electrotechnical wastes containing metallic particles with dimensions less than 5 mm. The separator, a so-called single-disk eddy-current separator (SDECS), consists of an inclined horizontal rotary disk covered with permanent magnets, alternately N-S and S-N oriented, directly fixed on the axis of an electric engine. The advantage is that it contains fewer permanent magnets and has a less complicated construction than the usual eddy-current separators. The functioning of the SDECS is based on the jump effect of the strongly conducting particles inside the separation device. Experimentally, the separation of two wastes, namely, Cu-Pb and Cu-Al mixtures, was realized. The paper describes the dependence of grade and recovery on the drum revolution for three fixed inclinations of the disk for each component of the wastes.
