Abstract
The Internet Transport layer (TCP level) has been designed for old context and applications requirements. It then became less and less efficient with the evolution of applications requirements and network/terminals technologies. We propose in this paper a new vision of the Transport layer, both service-oriented and component-based. We study how the actual Transport layer, with all its limitations, may be improved following those two approaches and we exhibit the considerations that have to be taken into account to implement the proposed vision.
