Abstract :
Production of polyethylene, the most used polymer in the world, typically involves flow streams containing gas and liquid, but inability to measure this two-phase flow accurately has been the source of myriad production problems. The difficulties involved with two-phase flow measurement have been linked to process interruptions, poor product quality wasted materials, and higher energy costs, any of which can sap profitability of a production run. One leading chemical producer has found a solution to the problem, using Coriolis flow measurement technology that the Foxboro unit of Invensys has developed in collaboration with flow specialists at the University of Oxford. This solution has enhanced PE production in both small and large scale operations.
