Abstract :
Compressed digital images are prone to various transmission errors in multimedia communications. This paper addresses the problem of transmission error recovery in JPEG 2000 images, with particular attention to error concealment (EC) in large areas. Currently, the best-known EC method for dealing with losses in large areas in JPEG 2000 is to fill the lost bits of the wavelet transform (WT) coefficients with zero (ZF method). This paper presents three EC methods for recovery of lost data in large areas. Two methods are general and are applicable for lost bits of the WT coefficients in any subband. The third method is proposed exclusively for the recovery of lost code blocks in the LL subband.
