  • Abstract
Many different types of product are developed for niche markets and individual customers. Some, such as ships, are large and comprise thousands of components. Others, such as prostheses, are much smaller and comprise only a few components. The idea that one approach could be used to design and produce component interface may seem unlikely. However, beneath the visual differences, the design and production characteristics of most one-of-a-kind products tend to be very similar. So, perhaps with a common target and agenda, it may be possible for diverse companies, from maritime to medical, to develop common interface solutions based on their common underlying challenges. A common target could be to design and produce interfaces in a maximum of five minutes. As an example, a development project called ´The3DayCar´ is introduced. Also the Build-to-Order strategies are pursued.
