Abstract :
The authors propose a new definition of the power components contained in IEEE Standard 1459-2000 in the wavelet domain instead of the frequency domain. Two numerical examples are considered to compare the results obtained by applying the power component definitions contained in the standard and those obtained using the reformulated definitions proposed. As a result, the authors conclude that the new method improves the performance of the frequency-domain method, especially in the case of transitory and nonstationary waveforms. For this purpose, the authors propose the use of a five-level wavelet decomposition tree using the discrete wavelet transform (DWT).
