Abstract :
Estimation of transit time in multiphase flow from a number of sensor measurements has major importance in the oil and chemical industries. A new mixed modality scheme is proposed which employs recursive least squares adaptive filtering together with a radial basis function network to estimate, in real-time, multiphase flow transit time. The technique also provides a measure of the turbulence within the flow and an output which indicates the confidence in the estimates. The performance of the network is demonstrated on multiphase flow measurement datasets
