Abstract :
A novel polarisation independent tunable optical filter using a grating-assisted, InGaAsP/InP directional coupler is demonstrated experimentally. Such a coupler is made of three planar coupled hetero-material waveguides. This type of filter has advantages of yield compensation after fabrication, narrow bandwidth, potentially broad tuning range and low crosstalk between TE/TM modes
