Abstract
We have extended our previously proposed theoretical model for burst-mode receivers to compute the BER performance for both unencoded (NRZ) and coded (mBnB) signals under adaptive threshold variation. The theoretical model agrees well with the simulation results and provides a natural explanation for the observed power penalty of previously reported burst-mode receivers.<>
