Abstract :
The intent of the author in this column and its predecessor, published in the March 2009 issue of IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, was to produce a behavioral model for the field of signal processing and then use that model to predict the field´s future. With the arc of the field thus estimated, coherent recommendations could then be made about how we might best work together to maximize its potential and achieve the positive societal outcomes it can produce.
