Abstract
The liberalisation of the UK telecommunications market has encouraged the development of alternative carrier networks, one result of which has been a greatly increased rate of optical cable installation on power lines. A description of UK experience to date with the three main cabling options, optical conductor, wrapped cable and self-supporting all-dielectric cable, is the main focus of this article.<>
