Abstract :
The paper describes various techniques to increase the speed of time-division switches to support rates of 600 Mb/s and beyond. The issue of multirate switching, essential to BISDN applications, is also addressed. Architectures of RAM- and shift-register-based time switches are discussed and compared. Some representative structures of time-division switch fabrics applicable to BISDN are presented
