Abstract :
This paper describes a study conducted by the Andhra Pradesh State Electricity Board (APSEB), India, and ECC, Inc., USA for the design of a distribution automation system (DAS). Distribution automation functions applicable to an Indian electric utility were identified. Communications technologies that are capable of meeting DAS requirements were evaluated, and a communications system suitable for India was defined. A benefit/cost analysis was performed; first for a basic DAS and then for additional distribution automation functions
