Abstract :
From the basis which subharmonic mode identification in saturated reactor (SR) compensated networks can establish, the authors investigate a design procedure for achieving the greatest possible counter-effect to subharmonic oscillations which the bypass filters of SR compensators can guarantee. The procedure has two main parts. The first relates to that part of the total subharmonic frequency band in which latent modes due to the combination of an SR and its slope-correcting capacitor circuits can be countered fully (i.e. suppressed). The second part relates to modes in the sub-band remaining in which reliance is placed on the damping which SR bypass filters can provide in maintaining subharmonic stability
