Abstract
Raster drawing systems have emerged as an alternative to more traditional vector-based CAD drafting systems. With engineering drawing in mind, the author compares the functional capabilities of these technologies and explores means for integrating the best features of both. The characteristics examined are not those of any particular raster or vector implementation but are derived from the underlying technologies. Three means are provided to blend the capabilities of raster and vector systems, each resulting in drawing systems that have capabilities beyond those of either system alone.<>
