Abstract
It is well known that correlation detection and trellis decoding of continuous phase frequency shift keyed (CPFSK) signals yields superior performance in comparison to other coherent detection techniques. The authors show that an M -state trellis in the decoder can achieve almost all the performance gain that is guaranteed by the memory of the CPFSK modulation
