Abstract
Modeling a multiarea power system within a reasonable amount of computer time mandates numerous approximations and assumptions that can lead to inaccurate results. It is shown that the Monte Carlo approach to reliability evaluation avoids these problems, providing a detailed and accurate modeling of the system with computer running times that are significantly less than those of other methods for studying multiarea systems.<>
