Abstract
An example of an in-house solution to a distribution automation system is presented. The results of several experiments carried out to identify the types of tools needed to implement a commercial-grade system with in-house staff are reported. A description is given of the information management system, the division district power management system, the workstation and personal computer tools, and the frame-based database management system. The results demonstrate that low-cost, simple, effective energy management systems can be implemented with a minimum of vendor software.<>
