Abstract
It is shown how FACTS can be used to improve the dynamic behaviour of electrical power systems. The aspects presented for the applications of compensators are damping of power oscillations and amelioration of transient stability. Control strategies based on local measurable quantities are derived using the direct Lyapunov method, and the relation between observability, controllability and effectiveness of active and reactive power control is discussed
