In memoriam - Robert T. Wangemann

This issue of the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Robert T. Wangemann, who died unexpectedly on February 16, 1998. Dr. Wangemann served as the first Executive Director of the IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society from 1986 to 1993. He established the LEOS Executive Office, and his dedication and contributions to the Society were appreciated by all who had the opportunity to work with him. Included below are highlights of Dr. Wangemann??s rich and interesting career that underscore his connection with this JSTQE issue on "Lasers in Medicine and Biology" and personal remembrances from two long-time LEOS members and volunteers. A brief biography of Dr. Wangemann is given highlighting his professional achievements.
