Abstract :
Describes 100bit/s soliton data transmission at 1.55 μm over 10600 km through the use of a dispersion-allocated soliton technique and 1.3 μm single-mode fibres. The maximum transmission distance was 9200 km when the amplifier spacing was extended to 59 km. This result is very interesting as it shows that conventional SMF is applicable even to transoceanic systems, and may enable system cost to be reduced
