Abstract
A novel, yet simple, scheme for detecting intensity-modulated lightwave signals in subcarrier multiplex systems with the help of IMPATT diode oscillators is proposed. The discriminator is seen to exhibit fairly linear characteristics over a moderate band of frequencies. A method of extending the bandwidth without sacrificing the linearity of the system is also suggested. The basic parameters of the system agree closely with the available experimental results
