Abstract :
A novel optical single-sideband (SSB) modulation system using an all-optical Hilbert transformer is proposed. The sideband suppression characteristics are analysed and compared with a conventional system using an electrical transformer. The side-lobe to main-lobe peak suppression ratio exceeding 40 to 60 dB is shown, significantly outperforming the conventional system
