Abstract
The authors describe a type of current-limiting fuse technology that was developed that has a potential for providing special benefits for the protection of power distribution circuits and equipment. The design features the use of a low melting temperature element which eliminates the need for complicated structures commonly found in silver element current limiting fuses, as required to interrupt the lower values of fault cu rrents. Such silver element fuses may employ an ´M´ spot, a gas evolving core, auxiliary elements with spark gaps, a more generous fuse dimension, or the use of a dual element metal such as tin.
