Abstract :
A novel technique of measuring group velocity dispersion (GVD) in optical fibers is introduced. The technique utilizes stimulated Raman scattering to couple small modulations from a pump beam to a signal beam. By measuring the coupling efficiency, a numerical value for the group delay difference between both beams is derived. Furthermore, we calculate the GVD from the measured data and show the good agreement with a conventional measurement technique.
