Abstract :
The amplification characteristics of 1.58 μm band Er3+ -doped fibre amplifiers pumped in the 0.98 and 1.48 μm bands were investigated. The noise characteristics were improved by adopting 0.98 μm band pumping. There was >0.3 dB improvement in both the average noise figure and the flatness of the noise figure
