A 3.5 MW gas turbine generator has been added to the BNFL Sellafield standby generation system. The author describes the phases involved in taking a gas turbine from design stage through to installation and final commissioning. The author discusses the testing of the turbine and its operation, the commissioning of the gas turbine system and the problems encountered
