Abstract
The author briefly discusses the conditions under which traction motors have to operate and then discusses their mounting on the locomotive. Cooling problems are also discussed. The various causes of failure and their repair, as well as routine maintenance are discussed. The effects of failure in service and the overhaul of traction motors are also discussed followed by details of faults specific to the various motor and locomotive types
