Abstract
Hydroelectric power is a mature technology and has been developed all around the world. Hydropower generation has been and will continue to be an integral part of the generation mix for Asia. This is principally due to the abundance of rivers, mountains, and precipitation in the region and because it therefore utilizes an indigenous "fuel". In this paper, the author defines three phases of development orientation, with emphasis on today\´s market-driven power generation and investment philosophies.
