Abstract :
A fabrication method of homogeneous (Sm0.5Y0.5 )Ba2Cu3O7-δ superconductor substituting Y with Sm has been developed using a zone melting process. A sample prepared by this method showed well textured microstructure and (Sm0.5Y0.5)2BaCuO5 particles were uniformly dispersed in large (Sm0.5Y0.5)Ba 2Cu3O7-δ grain. The sample showed a sharp superconducting transition at 90.3 K. The magnetization measurements of the (Sm0.5Y0.5)Ba2Cu 3O7-δ sample exhibited enhanced flux pinning compared with YBa2Cu3O7-δ samples without Sm. Critical current densities of (Sm0.5Y0.5 )Ba2Cu3O7-δ were 1.8×104 A/cm2 at 10 kOe and 77 K
