Abstract
Unlike conventional synchronous motors, a permanent magnet motor develops considerable break torque during its asynchronous mode of operation. An accurate prediction of the run-up characteristics of these motors is quite important. This paper presents the results of digital computer simulation of the transient performance of permanent magnet synchronous motors. This is achieved by the numerical solution of the machine dynamic equations including the effects of saturation. A discussion is provided to show the influence of various design parameters on the motor dynamic performances. Finally test results are included also to show the close agreement between calculated and measured results.
