Abstract :
Using NiAl as a seed layer has created a unique type of 2D-isotropic media with (10.0) crystalline texture in the magnetic layer. This paper compares this type isotropic media with oriented and 3D-random isotropic media. The intrinsic signal-to-noise ratio, cross track noise, and texture-induced modulation noise have been studied in detail. The oriented media exhibits low DC erase noise and high track edge and high transition noise compared to the isotropic media of either description. The use of a NiAl seed layer on mechanically textured substrates inducing a magnetic film (10.0) texture can reduce texture noise. Overwrite (OW) measurements clearly separate the studied media into two distinct categories
