Abstract :
A novel technique for characterization of track widths was developed, offering much improved measurement precision over previous methods. Using this technique, the effects of media parameters, such as coercivity, Hc, remanent-moment-thickness-product, Mr t, orientation ratio and carbon overcoat thickness, and head parameters, such as write current and recording frequency were studied. The results revealed that the recording track edges are critical to performance of a recording system. Proper control of track edges through selected media and head parameters can optimize the recording performance in the disk drive
