Abstract :
Based on the scattering property of the building target in synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images, a one-dimensional detector, named `range detector´, is proposed for building detection in this paper. This range detector can effectively detect and extract the footprint of the wall of a cuboid building. Then the outline of building can be captured by marching the footprint. Pi-SAR image of Sendai, Japan, was chosen to verify the proposed algorithm. The results show that more than 80% of the buildings can be identified.
