Abstract :
The relation between the perpendicular magnetic anisotropy constant Ku and the order parameter S of the Co3Pt ordered phase is examined. The ordering process is suggested to be governed by a surface diffusion based on the activation energy obtained and annealing experiments. Lowering the deposition rate shows significant improvement in both Ks and S at substrate deposition temperature Ts=330°C. The utilization of a Ru buffer layer does not contribute to obtain higher Ku and S. This may be due to the rougher surface of Ru buffer layer than Al2 O3(00·1) substrate
