Abstract :
When machine-to-machine (M2M) connectivity problems are discussed there tend to be two responses: one is to note that there have been predictions of inter-machine connectivity for years and the fact that the technology has failed to deliver on them suggests that an inherent impracticality exists that technology cannot overcome. The second, more positive response is to say that cellular transmission systems can handle it all, but that they will need major reinvestment along with backhaul support from other communications infrastructure.
