Abstract :
In this work, a real voltage collapse incident that occurred in the Chilean interconnected power system is studied. The incident is reproduced in a digital simulation environment, where the main elements involved in the process are identified. In addition, a detailed analysis on reactive compensation as the voltage collapse phenomena evolves is also discussed. It is found that the effectiveness of the reactive compensation is highly dependent on the time when this is applied to the network
