Abstract :
The problem of how to control industrial research for the benefit of the company or society which supports it is a subject of perennial interest. Ever since science based industry became a recognised component of society, those concerned with the deployment of resources on industrial research have been uneasily aware that there is very little correlation between expenditure and recognisably useful results. This article tackles the problem by the analysis of observations on the practice and exploitation of industrial research
