Abstract :
Reference signal plays an important role in passive radar signal processing. Passive radar exploits the third-party radio sources as illuminators of opportunity to detect targets of interest. It is well known that bit error rate (BER) is used to represent the quality of communication. However, BER is unknown in passive radar. This paper exploits modulation error rate (MER) extracted from symbol constellation diagram to quantify the quality of reference signal, which is practically feasible in passive radar. Then simulation results with respect to the influence of reference signal on clutter suppression and matched filter are both given. Moreover, modified-MER (MMER) of reference signal is presented to improve detection performance. The effectiveness is verified by simulation results in digital terrestrial multimedia broadcasting (DTMB) based passive radar.
