Abstract :
Semiconductor optical ring resonators may be used as lasers or optical filters, depending on the bias current applied. Double-ring structures have been modelled and fabricated. Resonance characteristics may be tailored by selecting coupling coefficients between the two rings, and by adjusting the net loss or gain in each ring cavity. Advantages in mode suppression have been observed in laser devices
