Abstract :
A very unique gain property of a codirectionally coupled semiconductor optical amplifier has been utilised to realise a novel cross-phase modulation device. Features such as threshold-like input-output characteristics and the incorporation of polarity-non-inverted switching make this device much more attractive for all-optical switching and digital wavelength conversion purposes than current devices
