Abstract :
Usage of a Miller signal as the downstream modulation format in a wavelength-division multiplexing passive optical network is proposed. The upstream on-off keying transmitter is perceived by remodulating the intensity-modulated downstream Miller signal power with the upstream data. Error-free transmission has been accomplished along a 20-km single-mode fiber without dispersion compensation. A power penalty of ~ 0.75 dB is added during remodulation in our proposed scheme.
