    Advanced forms of ground transport are the subject of much current research. Contactless suspension systems using electromagnetic techniques form a large part of this work, but improved wheel-on-rail systems are still of great importance. Linear electrical machines are of interest as the propulsion method for the advanced systems. Iron-cored versions only are considered in the article
