Abstract
In September 1976, the Enterprise was rolled out of its hangar at Palmdale, California, and not for yet another series of that well known US t.v. programme. The Enterprise is the name given to Orbiter 101, the part of Space Shuttle that will be launched into earth orbit and return to be reused. As a concept, Space Shuttle was born in the late 1960s, and with this concept came Spacelab, a general-purpose laboratory that offers the international scientific community the prospect of an effective means of conducting experiments in near-earth orbit
