Abstract :
Raman amplification in dispersion-managed fibre is studied experimentally. In positive-dispersion (+D)/inverse-dispersion (-D) configuration, severe multipath interference impairments at high Raman gain are observed. These are eliminated by using the +D/-D/+D configuration. In addition, the Raman gain in the +D/-D/+D configuration starts earlier in the span, improving the noise figure dramatically over conventional transmission fibres
