Abstract :
An automated method of power system fault diagnosis which can be incorporated in the station computer of an integrated control and protection system is presented. The effectiveness of this method is demonstrated using a transmission-level substation as an example. It is demonstrated that the method can be a valuable tool in enhancing the diagnostic capability of the substation computer. It is concluded that the decentralized approach of fault diagnosis using a substation computer can aid the operator in making correct decisions during the fault diagnosis of a power system and permit faster restoration after an emergency
