Abstract :
A uni-directional regenerative erbium-doped fibre ring laser-amplifier is investigated in an amplifier system operated below oscillation threshold. Regenerative gain as high as 23.9 dB was achieved for zero detuning at a pump power of 14.8 mW and input signal level of -34.9 dBm. An improvement in the noise performance was observed due to the suppression of amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) powers around the zero detuning region. Experimental results showed a good agreement with those predicted theoretically
