Abstract :
The intermodulation distortion (IM) caused by PDs in heterodyne detection optical-fibre millimetre-wave links has been measured and analysed. The characteristics of IM in multi-carrier transmission systems are explained. It is shown that second-order IM occurs close to the signal frequency and also that it is important to reduce this IM in order to improve the system performance
